ABOUT THIS EXHIBITION

Stone Echo brings together a new body of sculpture by the Jordanian artist Hazem Nemrawi with works that listen to the stone more than they impose on it.

Curved masses and polished openings follow the veining already running through the material: green, copper, amber, the occasional white fracture crossing a face like a river seen from altitude. Elsewhere Nemrawi leaves the rock exactly as the quarry gave it: ridged, matte, unresolved. The dialogue between those two surfaces is the work. One is the hand. The other is deep time.

Nemrawi has spent close to three decades in this material, and it shows in the restraint. Nothing here is over-carved. The forms suggest bodies, wings, currents, without settling into any of them, and the eye finishes what the chisel deliberately did not.
