Qias Eesa’s artistic journey is deeply rooted in his connection to Iraq, where he was born and raised amidst the vibrant cultural tapestry of Basra. He holds a PhD in Fine Arts from the prestigious University of Baghdad. As such, Eesa’s work reflects a profound exploration of contemporary thought, shaped by his academic pursuits and lifelong dedication to the philosophy of art.
Eesa is a man of many talents and disciplines; He is a painter, graphic designer, academic researcher, and university lecturer. Eesa’s practice transcends traditional boundaries, blending aesthetics, criticism, and modern art history into dynamic, innovative compositions.
Eesa’s paintings effortlessly weave abstract and figurative elements, creating visually compelling narratives that challenge viewers’ perceptions. His signature style is the intertwining of threads, a tactic he uses to express the spectrum of emotions in the human experience. On one end, the threads create knots that are difficult to escape, to convey grief and anxiety. On the other end, the threads are loose, to convey peace and relaxation.
His exhibitions—spanning personal and collective showcases globally—are a testament to his commitment to pushing artistic conventions. From the reflective tones of his “Light” series to the evocative imagery of “Displacements”, his works embody a journey of artistic evolution. Qais Eesa is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Ashtar Appreciation Award and recognition from UNESCO. His influence extends into academic spheres, where he mentors the next generation of Iraqi artists as a Professor at the University of Basra’s Faculty of Fine Arts. His participation in international festivals and exhibitions, such as the First International Festival in Sulaymaniyah (2022), highlights his role as a cultural ambassador for Iraq’s artistic heritage.
