Under the patronage of HRH Princess Wijdan Al-Hashemi, we invite you to the vernissage of Zeina Saket's début solo exhibition Illuminated Verses: "Contemplations with Hafiz"
Illuminated Verses: "Contemplations with Hafiz” celebrates the poetry of Hafiz Al Shirazi & revives it into visual art pieces. Inspired by the Islamic miniatures of the 16th century “Diwan of Hafiz”, Zeina Saket created mixed media paintings of multi-layers of poetry verses in Nas Ta'liq script & glimpses of the original 16th century miniatures. The pieces are the manifestations of late nights of contemplations with Hafiz of Shiraz & his mystical verses. The exhibition portrays layers of meaning within each of Hafiz's verses; layers of transparencies, clarity, reflection & soulful mystical illumination.
Hafiz, or Khawaja Shamsuddin Muhammad Hafez Al Shirazi, was a Persian poet born in Shiraz born in the early 1300's. He was named "Hafiz" for his ability to memorize the Quran at an early age. He composed over 500 Ghazals and 42 Rubaiyees over the period of 50 years. His poems are considered a classic in Sufi literature; they bestow divine inspirations & are truly a gift to those who are seekers of love.
