Bio

Syrian artist Heba Al-Akkad - Born in 1981 in Damascus, Syria. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts Department of painting from the University of Damascus.

Since then she has taken part in many exhibitions in Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Egypt. Heba won the first prize for young artists’ competition sponsored by Petro Canada.

In 2004 she started working as a primary school art teacher and then went on to volunteer at an NGO called Friends of the Environment. She also helped special needs children develop their artistic and creative skills and is currently dedicated to her art.
Heba Al-Akkad draws inspiration from her surroundings and in a way that reflects in her artworks.

Her work is an original, potent commentary of what is happening in Syria via bright, pop-art collages. Each piece stands out as a powerful testament to the Syrian people's suffering without being political or pointing fingers.
