Alwan Alwan was born in Baghdad, Iraq in 1962. Alwan’s sculptures are euphoric statements of love and belonging. The minimal, rugged figures in his works offer fascinating snapshots of moments of elation, be they of motherhood, intimacy, or peaceful moments of solitude.
Alwan graduated from the College of Fine Arts of Baghdad in 1999. In 2000, he was the recipient of the Ismail Fattah Award by the Hiwar Gallery in Baghdad. He was the winner of the 2009 Sculpting Award of the Biareq Gallery of Baghdad.
