Mounir Sha’arani

Born in 1952, Syria

MounirSharaani studied at Damascus University, receiving his BFA in 1977. He has held numerous solo exhibitions including shows at the Cairo Atelier, Cairo, 1987, 1990, 1992, 1993 and 1999; French Cultural Center, Cairo, 1992; Dar Al-Funoun, Tunis, 1992; Al-Sayid Gallery, Damascus, 1995; Cairo-Berlin Gallery, Cairo, 1998; Museum Rietberg, Zurich, 1998; Green Art Gallery, Dubai, 2004; St John’s College, Oxford, 2005; Art Space Gallery, Dubai, 2006; Dar Al-Anda Gallery, Amman, 2007; and Ayyam Gallery, Damascus; 2008. Shaarani has also participated in a number of important group exhibitions including Word into Art, British Museum, London, 2006;  Freedom and Innovation, Casa Arabe, Madrid and Cordoba, 2011; Artists from Today’s Syria, co-curator, Mashrabia Gallery, Cairo, 2012; and Art Syria, Meem Gallery, Dubai, 2013.
